I got an early Christmas present--a paddle with a frog design, made by Matthew Helgesen (Haida). Great job, Matthew! Haw'aa, to Rick P.

From A Boat
So, it's getting to that time of year again, when we think about what has gone on during the previous 12 months. Here we see one of my favorite images of the year, published on February 17th.
If you have a favorite Alaska Nitty-Gritty photo and would like to write a post about it, let me know. I will publish as I receive.

Jones House
One of the old structures in Kasaan collapsed recently. Louis Jones, the boat builder, used to live there with his family, though it has been abandoned for many, many years.
One of Mr. Jones' daughters, Julia Coburn, now in her eighties, still lives in Kasaan. You can see the roof of where she lives, to the right of the old house, through the trees.

Andy, did you hear about this one? ...fun at the Anchorage Museum--that's me with the camera. Photo taken with my iPhone by cousin Mike Jones. Haw'aa, Mike!
