    A clump of moss, if I see the same thing you see (Left side of tree?).

    No it looks like something is stuck in the tree; half on one side, half on the other. Looks like it has a head and a leg. It indeed might be the moss of which you speak but it is on both sides of the tree - looks like some sort of animal nested in the crotch of the tree
